Keris 10
KERIS 10 A 13 wave blade with naga at the gandhik, its body flowing into
the janur of the sogokan, pamor is wos wutah, executed in high contrast
material.
The wrongko is a Madura kacir, beautifully carved from burl teak, and
fitted with an artistically embossed pendok with lis and kepet, in an
alas-alasan motif, showing animals amidst foliage.
The hilt is the much talked about, and little understood "Veiled Durga", or
"Durga Mekabun".Both names have current usage with collectors in the
western world, and I consider both names to be culturally incorrect. In
Java, the men who carve these hilts call them the "Wadon" pattern. Wadon
means woman.
However, putting aside the controversy, this particular Wadon hilt is
artistically and skillfully carved from red sawo wood, and is fitted to an old
gilt mendak of the parijoto pattern.
A keris with good integrity, displaying a number of elements of high artistic
merit.
Blade length 13.75", overall 20.5" SOLD
