Keris 1

KERIS 1. A straight keris in the Surakarta style, showing the boto adeg blumbangan, full
length ada-ada, gusen, and ron dha associated with this style.Dhapur is Kala Misani Rondha
Nunut and the pamor is wengkon. The wengkon pamor is one of the more difficult pamor
motifs to make, deceivingly simple in appearance it requires the highest level of skill in
both forge work and handwork (garap) to execute. In Surakarta Karaton tradition, a keris
with pamor wengkon was gifted to a newly appointed Bupati, the wengkon symbolising the
duty of the Bupati to protect the people under his administrative care.
The Surakarta gayaman wrongko is skilfully carved from sono langit, with good chatoyancy
and the finish is disangkling, or burnished. A heavily gold plated pendok, with heavy
krawangan slorok of silver and gold plated underlay is fitted. Note:- the slorok (or front
panel) is of extremly high quality craftsmanship and is heavy, solid silver, it is not silver
plate.
The hardwood jejeran is absolutely unique, in that it displays a light face and a dark face,
the m'ranggi who carved it has used the natural variation of colour in the wood, and crafted
the hilt to display this striking colour variation to best advantage. In addition, the leading
edge of the jejeran is matched to the leading edge of the wrongko. A gold plate parijoto
pattern mendak is fitted.
This is a superb example of the Surakarta style keris in very high quality dress, and has
been priced at a level that would be difficult to duplicate in Central Jawa, if a piece of this
quality could even be located.
